If your choice is to do individual therapy, we'll start by discussing the issues that you're currently struggling with. If your choice is to do therapy as a couple or as a "family," we will discuss the issues between you, from each person's perspective.
In order to understand these issues more clearly, it will be necessary to go into a brief history of the problem. Once the issues are clarified, we will explore together what therapeutic strategies would be most helpful.
The strategies we will develop will utilize many cognitive behavioral techniques that have been shown to be so effective that they have become "best practices" for addressing a wide range of psychological problems.
Our process may include your learning new problem solving or coping skills, increasing your self-understanding and self-confidence, exploring life patterns and having a better sense of how you may be influenced by and reacting to your surroundings and experiences.
Our work together will be infused with and expanded by Eastern practices that have been documented through research as having powerful influence on psychological healing. These will include stress reduction and self-calming techniques such as meditation and relaxation training.
In addition, we will also examine the role of nutrition and exercise in your life.
For those who have serious medical problems I will, if you wish, establish a liaison with your medical or psychiatric specialist to help integrate your care.
Because I want you to be a full participant in your therapy, I have included resources on a separate page for you to access. If you are interested, please click the link to resources at the bottom of the page or in the menu above. Please feel free to bring in any questions from your reading, because I want you to be a fully informed partner in your therapy.
